Detailed Solution

James Mill had a very negative view of India and its civilisation. He said that a single British civilisation is better than a whole Asian civilisation. Mill depicted Indian society as morally deteriorated and contended that Hindus had never attained "a high state of civilisation." Mill preferred a more conceptual approach to social subjects over the popular empirical approach at the time. Mill stated in his preface that his book is a "critical history," with particularly harsh attacks on Hindu customs and a "backward" culture notable only for superstition, ignorance, and mistreatment of women.
