James Mill had a very negative view of India and its civilisation. He said that a single British civilisation is better than a whole Asian civilisation. Mill depicted Indian society as morally deteriorated and contended that Hindus had never attained "a high state of civilisation." Mill preferred a more conceptual approach to social subjects over the popular empirical approach at the time.
