Detailed Solution

Atomic size of the elements decreases while going across a period of the modern periodic table.
On moving left to right across a period of the modern periodic table, the atomic radius lowers because the nuclear charge increases as the atomic number increases which makes the atom more compact.
The valence electrons are present in the same outermost shell during periods. The atomic number increases within the same period of the modern periodic table as we move from left to right which in turn increases the effective nuclear charge. Elemental atomic radius decreases as attractive forces rise.
Therefore, the atomic size of the elements decreases while going across the period.
