Detailed Solution

Giuseppe Mazzini, an Italian revolutionary, was born in Genoa. He joined Carbonari in 1807. He subsequently established Young Italy to advance Italy's unification. The leader of the Italian regions, Chief Minister Cavour, was neither revolutionary nor democratic. Sardinia-Piedmont was able to defeat the Austrian armies in 1859. A sizable contingent of armed volunteers, led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, joined the fight in addition to the official army. They marched into South Italy for unification. Otto von Bismarck was involved in the unification of Germany, not Italy.
