The Indian Constitution is federal in form but unitary in spirit. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who studied constitutions of over sixty countries, played the key role in drafting it. On 29th August, he was appointed Chairman of the Drafting Committee and is remembered as the Father of the Indian Constitution.

Mahatma Gandhi returned to India in 1915 at the request of Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Known worldwide as a nationalist and community organiser, he led India’s non-violent struggle for independence and is honoured as the Father of the Nation.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, rose as a national leader after the Congress session at Lahore in 1929. A staunch believer in democratic socialism, he guided India’s governance for 17 years.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India, is remembered as the Iron Man of India. He worked tirelessly for refugees, restored peace during partition, and successfully united the princely states into one India.
