Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata set up the first iron and steel industry in India.
Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) was India's first iron and steel production factory, established on August 26, 1907, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, by Jamsetji Tata and Dorabji Tata. In 1911, the Tata Iron and Steel Company began producing pig iron, and in 1912, it began producing steel. Tata Iron and Steel Company succeeded during the First World War, and by 1939, it managed the largest steel mill in the British Empire.
