Detailed Solution

Maulana Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali were prominent leaders during the Khilafat Movement.
The Ottoman Empire was defeated towards the end of World War One. Following the First World War, rumors circulated that a peace deal would be forced on the Ottoman Empire's Khalifa, the spiritual leader of the Islamic world. The prominent leaders of Muslims, Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, met with Gandhiji to discuss a united mass movement on the Khilafat issue. Gandhiji felt that by focusing on the Khilafat problem, he might unite Hindus and Muslims and create a large-scale campaign in India. Gandhiji regarded this as a chance to bring Hindus and Muslims together.
