Detailed Solution

Cavour was neither a revolutionary nor a democrat. He was an Italian statesman and a leading individual in the movement toward Italian unification.
The drive to unite the territories of Italy was led by the Chief Minister of the Sardinia-Piedmont state, Count Camillo de Cavour. He did not identify as a revolutionary or a democratic. He was a wealthy and well-educated member of the Italian aristocracy, and his French was far superior to his Italian. In 1859, he masterminded the meticulous diplomatic alliance with France that enabled Sardinia-Piedmont to defeat Austrian armies, freeing the northern region of Italy from the Austrian Habsburgs.
