Detailed Solution

The Gujjar Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir are herders. They raise goats and sheep. Many migrated to Jammu and Kashmir in the 19th century in search of pastures for their animals. Over the decades, they established themselves in the area and moved annually between the summer and winter grazing grounds. In winter, when the mountains were covered with snow, they lived in the low hills of the Shivalik range. When it dries by the end of April, they will begin to march on the northern side for the summer grazing grounds, crossing the Pir Panjal passes and entering the valley of Kashmir.
