Marco Polo brought printing to Europe.
In 1295, Marco Polo returned to Italy after a few years of exploration in China.
China already had woodblock printing technology, so Marco Polo brought this knowledge back. Thus, the Italians began manufacturing wood books, and the technology began to unfold in different regions of Europe. However, luxury programs were still written by hand on expensive vellum, designed for royal gatherings and flush cloister libraries that mocked written books as low cost. Meanwhile, vendors and students in university cities purchase low-cost written copies.
