Detailed Solution

Robert Owen built a cooperative community called New Harmony in Indiana. Socialists envisioned different futures. Some people supported the concept of cooperatives. For example, leading English manufacturer Robert Owen (1771–1858) aimed to create the cooperative city of New Harmony in Indiana (USA). Other socialists believed that government support of cooperatives was necessary since they could not be developed on a large scale solely through the human initiative. For instance, Louis Blanc (1813–1882) favoured cooperatives as a replacement for capitalist businesses in France. These cooperatives were to be groups of people who created items together and distributed earnings according to the effort each member contributed.
