Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi had termed the Dalits as Harijans by likening them to the people of god. In order to end untouchability in India, Mahatma Gandhi formed the non-profit organization ‘Harijan Sevak Sangh’ in 1932. The organisation worked to improve the status of  Depressed Classes of India (the so-called Harijan or Dalit population). Two of the most well-known individuals who opposed untouchability in India were Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi also launched three journals—Harijan in English, Harijan Bandu in Gujarati, and Harijan Sevak in Hindi—to support the disadvantaged class.
