Detailed Solution

Vande Mataram is the national song of India, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1870. It was acquired as the national song on January 24th, 1950. The purpose behind writing Vande Matram was to inspire people in their struggle for freedom. This song is considered an encouragement for the people. Rabindranath Tagore first sang it. The meaning of Vande Matram is "I praise the motherland". The national song was taken from the poem "Mother; I bow to thee", written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the Sanskritized Bengali language in the 1870s. In 1882, the poem was included in Anandmath, a novel by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in Bengali.
