Elango Adigal composed Silappadikaram.
Silappadikaram was a great Tamil epic that was composed during the Sangam period. It was written by Elango Adigal about 1800 years ago and consisted of a story about a person living in puhar. It had a story of a merchant named Kovalan and a courtesan called Madhavi.
The story says that Kovalan had neglected his wife, Kannagi, and fell in love with Madhavi. The later part of the story talks about the kingdom of Pandya. When Kannagi and Kovalan had left puhar and went to Madurai, Kovalan was accused of theft by the court Jeweller. And the story says that the king of Pandya had ordered the death sentence of Kovalan.
