Kabir composed the "pads" in the medieval period.
Kabir was one of the most famous Bhakti saints, who most likely lived during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. He was raised in a family of Muslim weavers or Julahas who lived in or close to the city of Benares (Varanasi). There isn't any accurate information about the life of Kabir. Hence, his thoughts and ideas are learnt from a large body of lyrics known as sakhis and pads composed by Kabir and performed by roving bhajan singers. Later, some of these pads and sakhis were gathered and preserved in the Bijak, Panch Vani, and Guru Granth Sahib.
