Detailed Solution

BR Ambedkar worked to improve the plight of the Depressed Classes. He organized the Dalits and other untouchables into the Depressed Classes Association, or scheduled caste, in 1930. His views on the underclass were similar to those of Mahatma Gandhi. For Dalits, he advocated separate electoral districts. He demanded separate elections for Dalits while at the Round Table Conference in London, and the British colonizer acceded to his request. Due to his concern that a separate electorate for Dalits would impede their assimilation into mainstream society, Mahatma Gandhi fasted till he died. In order to guarantee a reserved seat for Dalits in the provincial and Central Legislative Councils to be chosen in general elections, Ambedkar signed the Poona Pact with Gandhi ji and the Congress.
