Detailed Solution

Non-Hindi-speaking states demanded English be continued as an official language. But members of the Constituent Assembly decided to discontinue the use of English as an official language after some time. So they ruled out that after 1965 English would not be continued as the official language of India as before. However, non-Hindi native speakers started protests against this. States like Tamil Nadu and other southern states made it a big issue and protested vehemently. They demanded English be used as the official language instead of discontinuing it. They did so because they were more comfortable using English, and they also felt that Hindi was being imposed on them, which is a language that is not their mother tongue.
