Detailed Solution

Clergy and nobility enjoyed privileges by birth in French society.
Before the French revolution, French society was divided into three estates. The first estate consisted of the clergy- a group of people assigned special functions in the church. The second estate consisted of the nobles. The third estate included small peasants, landless labour, and servants. The first two estates enjoyed privileges by birth and were exempted from paying taxes. The nobles enjoyed feudal privileges, which included the extraction of feudal dues from peasants. These peasants were obliged to work in these nobles' houses, fields, and even in the army.
