Detailed Solution

Otto von Bismarck followed the policy of "blood and iron" for the unification of Germany. He gave the "blood and iron" speech on September 30, 1862. This policy required bloodshed, cruelty toward adversaries, the use of swords, severity, and strictness. It permitted the use of a variety of tactics for intimidating adversaries and inflicting violence on them. His foreign policy has come to be known as "blood and iron," in part because he occasionally used military force to advance Germany's unification and the growth of its continental dominance. He earned the moniker "the iron chancellor" as a result.
