Jyotirao Phule founded the Satyashodhak Samaj.
Jyothirao Phule formed the Satyashodhak Samaj as he disapproved of the caste system and the injustices the lower castes endured. Phule disagreed with the notion that Brahmans were superior people. He asserted that the lower classes owned the land and the property and that the upper classes had no claim to it. Before Aryan dominion, according to Phule, there was a golden age when warrior-peasants tilled the ground and exercised just and equitable control over the Maratha countryside. He suggested that Shudras (labour castes) and Ati Shudras (untouchables) band together to fight caste prejudice.
