Detailed Solution

General Dyer gave the order to open fire on the innocent people in Jallianwala Bagh in1919. After the event of April 10, 1919, where the police attacked a peaceful procession by firing, martial law was imposed in Amritsar with General Dyer on duty. On April 13, a large crowd gathered in the enclosed ground of the Jallianwala Bagh. Some of them had gathered to celebrate the annual Baisakhi fair, while others were there to protest against the government. As martial law was imposed in Amritsar, it was a breach of the law, and hence General Dyer entered the area, closed the exit gates, and ordered his men to open fire on the crowd.
