The third estate had the highest number of representatives in the Estates General assembly. They had 600 representatives. The Estates General assembly of France was held on 5th May 1789. Louis XVI called the Estates-General assembly to pass the proposal for the new taxes. The 600 members of the third estate were forced to stand at the back, while the first and second estates each sent 300 representatives who were seated in rows facing each other on two sides. The third estate's wealthier and more educated members served as its representatives. Women, artisans, and peasants were excluded from the assembly.
