Who Holds Ministry of Jal Shakti?

As of recent updates, the Ministry of Jal Shakti in India is held by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He has been serving as the Union Minister responsible for managing the country’s water resources, drinking water supply, and sanitation programs. 

The Ministry of Jal Shakti was formed in May 2019 after merging two earlier departments, the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Its main goal is to ensure sustainable water management through initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide safe and clean tap water to every rural household. 

The ministry also oversees the Namami Gange Mission, focusing on cleaning and protecting the River Ganga. Under Shekhawat’s leadership, the ministry promotes efficient use of water for agriculture, groundwater conservation, and wastewater treatment. It coordinates with states to manage droughts, floods, and inter-state river disputes.
