In 1815, representatives from the European powers that had collectively defeated Napoleon - Britain, Russia, Prussia, and Austria met in Vienna to draft a settlement for Europe. Austrian Chancellor Duke Metternich hosted the Congress. The delegates drafted the Treaty of Vienna in 1815 intending to undo the majority of the changes that had occurred in Europe during the Napoleonic wars. The Bourbon dynasty was restored to power after being deposed during the French Revolution, and France lost the territories it had annexed under Napoleon. Along France's frontiers, several states were created to stop further French expansion. The main goal was to restore the monarchies that Napoleon had deposed and to establish a new conservative order in Europe.
