A Congress session was convened in Lahore in December 1929 with Pandit Nehru as the President. It proclaimed Purna Swaraj as the ultimate goal of Indians. Congress approved a proposal for total independence. Congress was determined to observe January 26, 1930, as Independence Day or Purna Swaraj Day. The Indian tricolour flag was hoisted by Nehru on the banks of the Ravi river.
