Detailed Solution

Lord Cornwallis introduced the permanent settlement of land.
The permanent settlement system is also called Jagirdari. Lord Cornwallis introduced this system of revenue collection in 1793. According to this settlement, land revenue was fixed, giving the company a regular income. In addition, a zamindar, which was given the right to the land, was hereditary and transferable. It will only be taken away if they fail to pay the tax. The system of Jagirdari was mainly introduced in the areas of Bengal and Bihar. In this system, 10/11 part of the production was given as tax to the British Company, and only 1/11 was left with zamindar, in which peasants had no fixed pay. Thus peasants were at the mercy of Zamindars.
