Detailed Solution

Scientific forestry was introduced in India by a German named Dietrich Brandis. When the British came to India, they were enamoured by the vast wealth of India’s forest resources. They wanted to exploit these resources and use them to gain profit. The use of forests by the locals was in a way that hurt the economic interests of the colonisers. They wanted to put restrictions on their ways of living. They invited Dietrich Brandis, a German scientist well-versed in forests. He became the first Inspector General of Forests in India and introduced Scientific Forestry to the country.
