Detailed Solution

Permanent Settlement was introduced by Lord Cornwallis.
The primary source of income for the company was land revenue. The company wanted to enhance the revenue basket. In this regard, they established a permanent settlement system in the countryside. Lord Cornwallis introduced the system in the year 1793. In this system, the zamindars were established in each region. They were responsible for collecting revenue and presenting it to the company at a fixed date. The revenue for each zamindar was fixed permanently. The zamindars exploited the peasants as the fixed revenue bounded them. It was also known as Sunset Law, as zamindars had to pay revenue until the fixed day's sunset.
