Detailed Solution

The Portuguese introduced the printing press first in India. The printing press came to India in the mid-sixteenth century in Goa with the help of  Portuguese missionaries. Konkani was learned by several Jesuit priests and printed in several books. About 50 books had been published in Konkani and Kanara languages by 1674. Catholic priests printed the first Tamil book in 1579 in Cochin. The first book in Malayalam was printed in 1713. Dutch missionaries had published 32 Tamil texts by 1710. Although The English East India Company began to import presses in the late seventeenth century, the English language press developed only in the late 18th century.
