Detailed Solution

The spinning jenny was the invention of James Hargreaves. This machinery revolutionised the process of cotton spinning. The spinning jenny used eight rods onto which the thread was spun, so by turning one wheel, eight threads could be spun at once. Before the spinning jenny's introduction, cotton spinning into threads for weaving into cloth had traditionally taken place in the homes of textile workers, and it came to be known as the cottage industry. James Hargreaves patented the spinning jenny in 1770. The invention of the spinning jenny changed the history of textile production and brought textile workers from home to work in the factories.
