Who invented the vaccine for small pox?

Edward Jenner developed the "small pox" vaccination in 1796. Prior to the development of a vaccine, variola major, the severe type of smallpox, had a very high mortality rate. Edward Jenner acted upon his discovery that milkmaids who contracted the cowpox virus did not also contract smallpox.
