A slave is a person who is owned by someone and does not have freedom.
Slaves were under the control of a slave master, had no freedom and were compelled to work for their masters. In the early eighteenth century, Jean Baptiste Labat, a French missionary, visited the Caribbean islands and wrote extensively about them.
