Who is a Tehsildar?

A Tehsildar is a government officer in charge of the administration and revenue collection of a tehsil or taluka, which is a subdivision of a district. They work under the District Collector and play a crucial role in land and revenue management.

The Tehsildar’s main duties include maintaining land records, collecting land revenue, conducting property surveys, and ensuring implementation of government schemes related to land and agriculture. They also handle mutation of land, issue land ownership certificates, and supervise patwaris (village-level revenue officials).

In addition to revenue work, Tehsildars perform important administrative and judicial functions such as resolving land disputes, monitoring elections, maintaining law and order, and overseeing relief operations during natural disasters.

Tehsildars act as a key link between the district administration and the village level. They ensure that government policies are implemented effectively and public grievances related to land or revenue are addressed quickly.
