Detailed Solution

Adivasis are tribal people.
'Adivasi' is the umbrella term for the tribals of the Indian subcontinent. They are believed to be India's first inhabitants or indigenous people. Approximately 8 per cent of India's population are Adivasis. Adivasis have lived in close connection with forests. It should be noted though that the Adivasis are not a homogeneous group- there are over 500 different Adivasi groups in India. There is often very little hierarchy among Adivasi groups, making them considerably different from mainstream communities. Tribal religions involve the worship of ancestors, villages and nature spirits. They also have their own languages, which are possibly as old as Sanskrit.
