Who is called the father of plants physiology?

In flowering plants, transport refers to the movement of water, minerals, nutrients, plant growth regulators, and other materials throughout the plant.

Plant physiology is the branch of botany that studies the different structures and functions of plants. It mainly covers important processes like:

• Photosynthesis
• Mineral nutrition
• Transpiration
• Respiration
• Plant growth and development- It also deals with cell division and other physiological activities of plants.

Father of Plant Physiology

Stephen Hales is regarded as the Father of Plant Physiology.

• He was an English priest and scientist who contributed to botany, chemistry, and physiology.
• Born: 17 September 1677, Bekesbourne, Kent, England
• He studied at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and became a priest in 1709 at Fulham.
• His most famous work is “Statical Essays”.

His experiments on plant physiology and chemistry were published in “Vegetable Staticks” (1727). His research on animal physiology was published in “Haemostatics” (1733), which also included the first recorded measurements of blood pressure.
