Richard Arkwright is credited with the establishment of the first cotton mill. Several inventions improved the efficiency of each phase of the cotton textile production process in the eighteenth century. They made it feasible to manufacture stronger threads and yarn and increased productivity per worker, allowing each worker to produce more. Cotton became the new representation of the industrial age. In the late nineteenth century, it saw significant production growth.
