Who is known as Mother India?

The concept of "Mother India," or Bharat Mata, is a powerful and deeply evocative personification of India as a mother goddess. The visualization of India as a mother goddess gained prominence during the late 19th century as a response to British colonialism. In this painting, Bharat Mata is depicted as a serene, four-armed Hindu goddess wearing saffron robes. Sarojini Naidu, the "Nightingale of India," and a prominent freedom fighter, is sometimes referred to by this title for her immense contributions to the nationalist cause. Annie Besant, an Irish socialist and women's rights activist who became a key figure in the Indian freedom struggle, is another leader who is sometimes honored with this maternal title. However, it is the powerful and enduring image of Bharat Mata that truly captures the essence of India as a beloved and revered motherland in the hearts of its people.
