Rashsundari Devi was probably the first Bengali author of an autobiography and the first lady to write a Bengali text in her 60s. The first woman to publish an autobiography was Rashsundari Devi, an Eastern Bengali native. She was a wealthy landowner's daughter who worked as a housewife. She grew up in an era when becoming literate was considered a terrible omen for a woman's marriage and a surefire means to divorce her spouse forever. Rassundari, a 59-year-old woman, lost her husband a few months after she turned 59. Her writing abilities also improved. Amar Jiban, which translates to "My Life," was the title of the autobiography she eventually wrote in Bengali with the help of her family. It wasn't until 1876 that it was finally published.
