The President of India is the head of state, according to Article 52 of the Indian Constitution. The President of India is the nominal leader of India's executive, legislative, and judicial departments, as well as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. With a few exceptions, Article 53 of the Indian Constitution states that the president may execute his powers personally or through subordinate authority; the prime minister (a subordinate officer) exercises all of the president's executive powers with the Council of Ministers. The constitution requires the president to follow the prime minister and cabinet's advice, so long as it does not contradict the body.
