Detailed Solution

The President is the Head of the State and the highest formal authority in India. The President is the nominal executive, meaning his functions are only ceremonial. The President oversees the overall functioning of all the political institutions and ensures that they work together in harmony. The laws and decisions of government policies are made in the President's name. Appointments of officials such as the Chief Justice of India and judges of the Supreme Court are issued under his name. He is also the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. But the President exercises these powers only on the advice of the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers. However, the President is the one who appoints the Prime minister when a party or a coalition of parties secures a clear majority in the elections. Currently, the President of India is Draupadi Murmu.
