Lok Sabha is presided over by the speaker.
The parliament has two houses, the first is Lok sabha, also known as the lower house, and the second is Rajya sabha or the upper house of the parliament. Lok Sabha is elected every five years by direct election, and the Rajya sabha by the state legislative assembly members. The Speaker is the presiding officer of the lower house of parliament. He or she is a member of parliament either through election or nomination. Generally thought convention, the speaker belongs to the ruling party. The President of India appoints a speaker in the Lok sabha in the first sitting of the newly elected government.
