Detailed Solution

Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is the writer of the novel Anandamath.
Most frequently, a figure or image serves as a symbol of national identity. This helps in the formation of national identity. Only in the 20th century, with the development of nationalism, did Bharat Mata become the visual expression of the Indian identity. The concept for the image was first conceived by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He penned "Vande Mataram" in the 1870s as a patriotic hymn. Later, it was incorporated into his book Anandamath and was a popular song in Bengal during the Swadeshi movement. The Swadeshi movement inspired Abanindranath Tagore to paint his well-known painting of Bharat Mata. Bharat Mata is depicted in this painting as an ascetic woman who is peaceful, collected, divine, and spiritual.
