Detailed Solution

Magistrate Ashley Eden issued a notice stating that ryots would not be compelled to accept indigo contracts.
The ryots thought that the British government was in support of them, but it was afraid that another popular revolt would take place after the revolt of 1857. After news spread in the winter of 1859. The Republicans saw the tour as government support. Magistrate Ashley Eden notified Barasat that the ryots would not be forced to sign the contracts. In villages, it went around that Queen Victoria declared that indigo did not need sowing. Eden intended to appease the peasants and control the situation, but the British government took it as support for the rebellion.
