Detailed Solution

The Sri Lankan Tamil launched parties and struggles in Sri Lanka in the 1980s. In 1956, a law establishing Sinhala as the official language was established, and the government then implemented measures favouring Sinhala-speaking candidates for elected office. As a result of feeling excluded, the minority Tamil-speaking Sri Lankan Tamils started political organisations and campaigns to demand Tamil as the official language and to get equal opportunities in schools and employment. But the Sinhalese administration consistently rejected their request for greater autonomy for the Tamil-populated provinces. Widespread strife resulted from the two communities' mistrust of one another. It quickly escalated into a civil war.
