Baba Ramchandra led the peasant movements in Awadh. The campaign, in this instance, was directed at talukdars and landlords who sought astronomically high rents and several other cesses from peasants. At the farms of their landlords, peasants were forced to work for free and beg. They have no claim to the leased land because, as tenants, they lacked tenure security and were frequently evicted. The peasant movement requested that taxes be cut and abolished, and harsh landowners were socially boycotted. In the villages, the Awadh Kisan Sabha was established.
