The Concurrent list is one of the three lists mentioned in the seventh schedule of the Constitution of India. Upon the subjects mentioned in this list, both the Central and the State governments can make laws.
The Constitution of India provides for a three-fold distribution of legislative powers between the Union Government and State governments. The Constitution prescribes three lists - the Union list, the State list, and the Concurrent list. The Central government has the power to make laws on subjects of the Union list, the state government has the power to make laws on subjects of the State list. Both the Centre and the State governments have the power to make law on the Concurrent list. If there is a tussle between the Union law and the State law, the Union law prevails. Some of the examples of the Concurrent list are education, trade unions, marriage, adoption, and succession.
