The Union or Central government makes laws on the Union list. These include subjects of national importance. The Indian Constitution has subject-wise division of legislative powers of the Central and the State. It is mentioned in the seventh schedule of the Constitution under three lists: the Union list, the State list and the Concurrent list. The subjects mentioned under the Union list come under the Union government. The Union government also has the authority to make laws on subjects of the Concurrent list along with the State government. In case of a conflict, the decision or law of the Union government prevails. The State government makes law on subjects under the State list and the Concurrent list is a shared list between the Centre and the State.
