Detailed Solution

Dr B.R. Ambedkar organised the Dalits into the Depressed Classes Association in 1930. It was established to ensure that the Scheduled Castes had fair representation in India's decision-making organisations. At the Second Round Table Conference, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar fought on the need for separate electorates for the Dalit community. When Ambedkar's demand was granted by the British government, Gandhi started a fast unto death. The Poona Pact of September 1932 was the outcome of Ambedkar ultimately embracing Gandhi's viewpoint. It granted the Schedule Castes reserved seats in local and national legislative councils.
