The provincial government placed Tsar Nicholas II on house arrest.
Early in March, the Provisional Government placed Nicholas and his family under house arrest at the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, 24 kilometres south of Petrograd. The Tsar's behaviour led to the fall of the Tsarist regime. Moreover, Nicholas II harmed the economy of the country and his reputation with the public because of his actions and decisions. Therefore, Nicholas' rule over the Russian Empire was not suitable. The empire and the Romanov dynasty ended with Nicholas II's resignation on March 15, 1917. The kingdom was created due to the Russian nobility's hunt for a new monarchic bloodline.
