Motilal Nehru played a lead role in a draft for the future Constitution of India even before India became independent.
It was making a constitution for a country as diverse as India was not an easy task. The political and social situation in India then was uncertain and unstable. In 1928, Motilal Nehru, with eight National Congress leaders, prepared a draft constitution for a future India. The Karachi session in 1931 also ended on the values incorporated into the future Constitution. The Indian Constitution that had made for independent India depended on the values enshrined in both these documents. The Karachi session, along with Motilal Nehru's draft, decided on the importance of equality, universal adult suffrage and freedom for all in independent India.
